산업화시기 제주이주민의 지역정착과 사회연결망

In the Era of Industrialization, Regional Settlement of Jeju Migrants and Social Network

이 논문은 산업화시기 제주로 이주한 사람들이 새로운 지역에 정착하면서 어떠한 사회적 연결망을 활용하는지를 살펴보고, 이들이 제주에 정착하면서 지역집단화으로 성장해나가는 과정을 살펴보고자 하였다. 구체적인 분석을 위해서는 문헌연구방법과 함께 1세대 이주자들, 1.5세대와 2세대 향우회 관계자들과의 심층면접방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과, 출신지를 떠나 새로운 지역에 정착해 살아가는 1세대 이주들은 신의 출신지와의 직접적인 교류를 통해 또는 지연망을 통해 연대의식을 강화시키면서 정착지에 적응해갔다는 것을 알 수 있고, 최근 들어 향우회의 세대교체 속에서 실리를 추구하는 방향으로 바뀌고 있음을 알 수 있다. 다음으로 향우회 집행부가 세대교체 되면서 향우회의 존속가능성에 대한 우려가 존재하는데, 이러한 상황에서 지역 향우회들은 각종 행사에서 참여와 단결을 강조하고 청년회를 기구화해 청년들의 참여를 활성화시키려고 하는가 하면, 정착지 지역사회와 함께 하는 활동으로 확대해나가고 있음을 제주지역 사례에서도 알 수 있다.

This paper examined the organizational process and changes of Hyangwoohoe as a kind of social networks based in hometown through case, Jeju. For the research methods, the opinions from the members of Jeju migrant’s community associations and the persons interested in each Jeju migrant’s community association were collected through in-depth interviews. We found that the first generation of immigrants to leave the birth home lives to settle in new areas are adapted to the settlements while strengthening a sense of community to stand mediating the home through direct exchanges with the homeland, but also through the various events of hometown. Next, the result of examining the changing role of local hometown through the Jeju practices in this paper are as follows: First, it was confirmed that Hyangwoohoe was a mechanism for emotional, social and economic adaptation to a new area. Next, migrants tended to migrate an intact even in terms of political beliefs and their attitude in terms hometown area. However, as recently hyangwoohoe replaced three executives, the political activities of hyangwoohoe are changing in the direction of the pursuit of benefit. Finally, there is a voice that concern the viability of hyangwoohoe. In these circumstances hyangwoohoe is trying to emphasize the participation and solidarity through various events and enable the participation of young people by creating the youth group in hyangwoohoe. Also hyangwoohoe is doing efforts to attract new immigrants and members of hyangwoohoe can see that expanding its activities to communities where they live.
