규장각 소장 고지도의 제작기법 연구

The Production Techniques of Kyujanggak’s Historic Maps: Based on Kyujanggak’s Map Reproduction Projects

서울대학교 규장각한국학연구원에서는 2011년부터 2018년까지 모사본 제작사업의 보고서를 발행하였다. 본 연구는 이 보고서들을 대상으로 규장각 소장 고지도 12점의 제작기법을 분석한 것이다. 규장각 고지도 모사 사업의 목적과 방침을 살펴보고 고지도의 모사본 제작과정에 대해 과정별 특징을 고찰하였다. 또한 원본과 모사본을 비교하여 모사본 제작사업의 결과물이 어떻게 형성되는지 알아보고, 고지도의 제작기법에 대해서는 바탕재와 재료기법을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 통해 규장각 소장 고지도 모사본 제작사업은 원형복원을 위해 다각적인 분석과 과학적·객관적 근거를 바탕으로 고지도의 제작기법을 밝히고 최대한 원본에 가깝게 모사본을 제작하고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 모사, 고지도, 전통 재료, 장황 등 여러 분야 전문가들의 협업, 체계적인 검수 시스템을 통해 모사본을 제작하고, 전 과정을 기록으로 발표 및 공유하여 고지도 분야와 관련 연구에 큰 기여를 하고 있다.

From 2011 to 2018, The Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University published reports on projects to create reproductions of 12 historic Korean maps. Based on these reports, this paper examines the methods and goals of producing these reproductions. Focusing on the materials used for both canvases and paints, as well as painting techniques, the production techniques of historic Korean maps are analyzed through the reproduction process. Kyujanggak’s map reproduction project reveals the traditional production techniques used in these maps. Scientific and objective analyses were carried out to produce reproductions as close as to the originals as possible. Experts in various fields, including art reproduction, cartography, traditional materials, and traditional mounting, collaborated to produce the reproductions. Further examination for errors was carried out by an independent team of inspectors. The entire process was thoroughly documented, creating a record that contributes greatly to the study of historic cartography and the related fields.
