A Study on Nail Art Work Using Pixels as Motives

Humans pursue new types of beauty to satisfy individuality and personal emotion. Moreover, digital culture becomes an indispensable part of daily life in the post-Coronavirus era. A pixel, the smallest part of a digital image, has been actively used in visual art, including in digital art and new media due to its ability to express symbolism. However, there is almost no research on nail art using pixels. Accordingly, it is urgently required to investigate the design and creation of novel and unique nail art using pixels. Thus, this paper aims to propose a variety of expression methods for nail art design by dividing nail art design using pixels into planes and 3D designs. In other words, this paper tries to present a further direction and provide basic data for nail art design. This will allow for an expanded scope of art applying unique approaches to the creation of nail art designs as a mean to enhance individuality and self-satisfaction.
