비교문화학적 관점에서의 발해 다인장 연구

A study on the Balhae Multi-burial System from a comparative cultural perspective

본고는 발해국 고분문화의 주요한 특징인 “다인장” 검토를 통해, 발해 장례풍속에 대한 이해를 심화시키고 그 성격 및 문화적 연원을 고찰하기 위한 목적에서 작성된 글이다. 그동안 발견된 발해 고분 1,240기를 유형별로 분류하고 인골이 확인된 408기 장속을 검토하여 15.4%에 달하는 63기가 다인장임을 확인하고, “다인장=순장” 및 “다인장=가족장”이라는 학계의 주장을 검토하였다. 그 결과 매장주체부가 반복적으로 사용되어 동시에 묻혔을 가능성이 낮은 점, 동일한 공간에 묻혔더라도 그 묻힌 상태나 공간 배치만으로는 종속관계를 구분할 수 없는 점에 근거하여 “다인장=순장” 주장은 그 근거가 충분하지 않고, 또한 구국에서 중경, 다시 상경으로 이동하면서 그 빈도가 높아지는 현상은 순장의 확대보다는 현지 고유의 문화와 새로 유입된 문화의 습합 과정에서 형성된 혈연 중심의 장례 문화, 즉 다인장이 확대된 것으로 이해할 수 있었다.

This paper is an article that deepens the understanding of the customs of the funeral in Balhae and examines the characteristics of the funeral customs through the review of the multi-burial system , which is the main characteristic of the burial culture in the Balhae country. First, 1,240 tombs found in the Balhae area were classified by type. Among them, as a result of confirming the funeral customs of 408 tombs in which human bones were identified, multi-burial system were found in 63, accounting for 15.4%. Based on this, the arguments of the academic world were reviewed: multi-burial system=burial of the living with the dead and multi-burial system=family tomb. As a result, it was relatively low that the tomb was used repeatedly and buried at the same time, and even human bones buried in the same space could not clearly distinguish the subordination relationship only by the buried state or space arrangement. Accordingly, it was found that the argument of multi-burial system=burial of the living with the dead raised in the academic world was not sufficiently logical. In addition, multi-burial system , which is commonly found in the Balhae tombs, tends to increase as it moves to the Sanggyeongthrough Junggyeong area. This can be understood as a result of the development of a kinship-centered funeral culture in the process of mingling the local culture and newly introduced culture.
