Research on the Creative Characteristics of Matthew Bourne’s Rebellious Classics

Purpose - This research is to compare and analyze the three works of Matthew Bourne’s masterpiece “Swan Lake”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella” and the classical version of ballet. The purpose of the research is to study the creative characteristics of Matthew Bourne. Design/Methodology/Approach -Using literature research method, comparative research method, and work analysis method. Findings - Firstly, the creation is full of realistic thinking and satire on reality, before the detailed mastery of character psychology and audience psychology in creation. Secondly, the creation must follow natural and logical thinking. Furthermore, the creation should pay attention to the characteristics of the times. More specifically, the creation is needed to bear the sense of responsibility given by the times. Moreover, many hints in the plot design echo the mainline of plot development which is the main creative keynotes eulogizing pure love and yearning for a free and equal life. Finally, Matthew’s creation is full of thinking about human nature as the diversity of dance vocabulary is mixed and chaotic and has characteristics of characters and times. Research Implications - The significance lies in the detailed comparative analysis of the creative characteristics of Matthew Byrne, and the active role of Matthew in promoting dance narration through research and analysis.
