본고에서는 바이오경제에서 핵심 산업인 화이트 바이오에 대하여 개관하고, 화이트 바이오 부문에서 앞서 나가는 미국과 유럽의 정부 정책 및 이 부문에 대한 접근 방식을 비교한다. 또 화이트 바이오의 대표 제품인 바이오 플라스틱과 바이오연료에 대해서도 살펴본다. 바이오 플라스틱의 경우 그 종류와 시장 상황에 대해 정리하며, 바이오연료는 바이오에탄올과 바이오디젤 각각의 시장에 대해서도 알아본다.
In this paper we survey white biotechnology, a major industry in the bioeconomy, and compare the U.S. and Europe’s government policy and approach towards it. We also study the main products of white bio: bioplastic and biofuel. In the case of bioplastic, we summarize its types and the market situation, while for biofuel, we study the uniqueness of bioethanol and biodiesel market.
