This study was conducted for the purpose of determining steps the cruise industry, governments, municipalities, and academia should take in preparation for the re-establishment of a safe travel environment and the sound acceptance of the resumption of cruise tourism in response to the outbreak of viruses such as COVID-19 and the future resumption of Chinese cruise tour visits to Korea. To that end, a focus was place on the review of a variety of literature which utilized secondary data. Specifically, literature was analyzed which looks at trends in Korean cruise tourism markets, impacts of COVID-19 on cruise tourism markets, and trends—and an overall forecast—of Chinese cruise tourism markets. In the conclusion, strategies for vitalizing cruise tourism by responding to conditions in an age of coexistence with coronavirus are suggested. Specific ideas presented include building safe cruise tourism environments, continuously securing cruise port infrastructure, establishing systems for efficient vessel entries at ports, and improving acceptance of foreign independent travelers (FITs).
