Analysis of Terror types by Country Using Global Terrorism Data

서구 선진국들의 강력한 대테러 정책에도 불구하고 테러는 근절되지 못하고 있다. 그간 우리나라는 서구열강들과 비교할 때 비교적 테러위협에서 안전한 국가로 인식되어 왔다. 하지만 한국의 위상이 높아지고 국제사회에서의 역할이 중요해짐에 따라 그 테러위협도 높아져 가고 있다. 또한 다문화사회로의 급속한 변화가 사회적 갈등을 야기할 위험성도 내재하고 있기 때문에 더 주의할 필요가 있다. 이 연구는 GTD(Global Terrorism Data)를 활용하여 국가별 테러유형을 분석해 앞으로 다가올 테러위협에 대응하는데 도움이 되고자 하였다. 전 세계 테러발생빈도는 2010년대에 들어 급격하게 증가하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 특히 중동과북아프리카, 남아시아, 사하라 이남 아프리카, 남미와 같은 지역에서 테러가 가장빈번하게 일어나고 있다. 그 중에서도 본 연구는 테러가 가장 많이 일어나는 5개국의 테러발생유형을 살펴보고자 한다. 테러가 많이 발생하는 5개국에서는 기본적으로 폭파, 무장공격, 암살, 납치 등의 공격방식이 가장 많이 활용되고 있으며 그 중에서도 폭파와 무장공격의 비율이 가장 높다. 이는 목표대상의 폭이 넓고 테러의 성공가능성도 다른 방식에 비해 높기 때문에 많이 활용되고 있다. 이러한 주요 공격방식에 대한 대책을 미리마련한다면 추후에 발생할 수 있는 테러를 막는데 도움이 될 수 있다.

Despite the strong counter-terrorism policies of advanced Western countries, terrorism has not been eradicated. Until now, Korea has been recognized as a country that is relatively safe from terrorist threats compared to Western powers. However, as Korea s status increases and its role in the international community becomes more important, the threat is also increasing. In addition, it is necessary to be more cautious because there is a risk that rapid change to a multicultural society may cause social conflict. So, by using GTD to analyze the types of terrorism by country, it was intended to be helpful in responding to the upcoming terrorist threat. The frequency of terrorism has been increasing rapidly in the 2010s. Among them, terrorism occurs most frequently in regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South America. Among them, I would like to examine the types of terrorism in the five countries where terrorism occurs most frequently. Basically, bombing, armed attacks, assassination, and kidnapping are the most common attacks in the five countries where terrorism occurs. This is widely used because the target range is wide and the possibility of success of terrorism is higher than that of other methods. Preparing countermeasures for these major attack methods can help prevent possible terrorism in the future.
