&#65378;조신&#65379;과 <죽음에 관하여>를 통해 본단절과 연결의 사유

‘connection-disconnection reason’ through &#65378;Josin&#65379; and <About Death>

기록된 설화들은 현대에도 여전히 친숙하게 읽히지만 고정되어 있다는 단점을 가진다. 그러나 그 역사를 밟아 올라가면, 본래 구비문학의 형태로 유연함을 가지고 있는 서사였다. 고전 서사가 현대에 맞추어 다시금 변형을 추구하는 것은 구비문학의 본질을 따라가는 것이 다. 그러한 힘을 활용하여 고전 서사를 현대에 다시 활용할 수 있는 가능성은 <도깨비>(2016), <푸른 바다의 전설>(2016), <신과 함께>(2017) 등 다양한 콘텐츠로 확인되어 왔다. 즉 고전 서사가 무궁 무진한 소재를 제공하는 것으로써 의의가 있을 것임은 이미 오래 예견되어 온 것이다. 그러나 지금까지의 연구는 근본적인 서사의 정신을 고민하는 것이 아니라 해당 서사 각각의 활용만을 전제로 했다. 본고에서는 고전 서사에 내재되어 있는 고전적인 사유를 고찰하고, 그러한 사유가 현대까지 전해져 내려오고 있는지에 대하여 고찰해 보고자 한다. 그중에서도 꿈을 활용하고 환몽 구조를 취하고 있는 &#65378;조신&#65379; 설화는 이후 등장하는 몽자류 소설의 시초 역할을 하면서 유의미하게 여겨진 다. 웹툰 <죽음에 관하여>는 현대 활발하게 사용되고 있는 웹툰 플랫 폼을 활용하여 삶에 대한 사유를 제공하는 것으로, ‘백색공간’을 활용 하여 환몽 구조와 유사한 구조를 취하고 있다. 위 두 서사는 공통점을 공유하면서도, 시대적인 특성을 반영하고 있어, 본고의 목적에 적합하다고 판단된다. 두 서사는 고전적인 ‘연결-단절’의 사유를 지니고 있다. 첫째, ‘꿈’ 과 ‘백색공간’의 공간을 활용하여 현실과 단절시키며, 능동적인 삶을 제공하고자 한다는 점에서 현실과 다시 연결된다. 둘째, 인간의 기본 적인 욕망을 배척하지 않고 특별한 공간에서 충분히 사유할 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, 사유 된 욕망을 가상적으로 실현시켜 주며, 보다 나아가 스스로 판단할 수 있도록 한다. 즉 보편적인 욕망에 대하여 다루고 있음과 동시에, 개인이 ‘초월’할 수 있도록 도와 본인의 삶을 판단 하고 올바른 방향으로 영위하게 만든다는 점에서, 고전적인 사유를 공유하고 있다고 본 것이다.

Classical narratives remain fixed in the modern times. However, tales were originally oral literature, and had a narrative with flexibility. Thus the classical narrative will have the power to remain in a modified form in modern times. It has long been foreseen that the use of such power to re-use the classical narrative in modern times will be meaningful in providing endless materials. However, research so far has been based on the premise that the underlying narrative spirit is not considered, but that the narrative is used as it is or with a slight variation. In this book, we would like to consider the classical reasons inherent in the classical narrative and whether such reasons have been passed down to the present day. Among them, the Josin tale, which utilizes dreams and takes advantage of the dream structure, is considered significant as it served as the beginning of a later monstrous novel. The webtoon <About Death> provides a reason for life by utilizing the webtoon platform that is actively used in modern times, and utilizes the white space to take a structure similar to the dream structure. The above two narratives share commonalities, but reflect the characteristics of the times, so they are judged to be suitable for the purpose of the original manuscript. The two narratives have reasons for the classic connectiondisconnection. First, it connects with reality again in that it wants to use the space of dream and white space to cut it off from reality and provide an active life. Second, it allows people to think fully in a special space without rejecting basic human desires. Third, it virtually realizes the desires of the deceased and allows them to make judgments on their own. In other words, they share a classic reason in that they deal with universal desires and at the same time help individuals trans to judge their own lives and lead them in the right direction.
