Characteristics and changes of inscriptions in the Three Kingdoms Period and the Unified Silla Period

이 글에서는 삼국~통일신라시대 금(청)동제품의 각명기술을 분석하여 그 특징과 변천을 밝히고 그 배경을 국내 정세, 대외교류라는 관점에서 해석하였다. 5세기 신라에서 확인되는 금(청)동제품의 합인조긁기는 문자의 획을 선으로 표현하는 단순한 수준에 머무른다. 각명기술이 등장할 수 있었던 배경에는 고구려의 영향을 상정할 수 있다. 이후 6세기 중엽이 되면 고구려와 백제를 중심으로 모조끌로 새긴 문자가 등장한다. 획의 굵기를 조절할 수 있어 전 단계에 비해 문자를 표현하는 데 유리한 모조는 중국 산둥지역을 중심으로 한 北朝의 금동소불의 제작기술이 이입되면서 한반도에 등장하였다. 백제에 이입된 모조는 큰시차 없이 일본열도까지 전해진다. 삼국통일 직후에는 다양한 각명기술이 동시에 등장한다. 이러한 양상을 당시 국내 정세와 결부시키는 데는 주의가필요하다. 다만 신라에 등장한 모조와 관련해서 만큼은 백제로부터 강한 영향이 상정된다. 이후 획의 윤곽을 새겨 문자의 형태를 가장 충실하게 재현한 점에서 工人의 의도가 가장 잘 반영된 것으로 평가할 수 있는 쌍구체법은 금속공예품으로 보아 唐과 신라의 인적·물적 교류 속에서 도입되었다. 이처럼 삼국~통일신라시대 각명기술은 시대가 지나면서 문자의 원래 형태를 최대한 사실적으로 표현하고자 하는 방향으로 발전해 나간다. 그 변화와 발전의 배경에는 항상 중국과 북방지역의 영향을 상정할 수 있다. 고고자료에서 확인된 문자는 주로 역사학의 연구대상으로 간주되지만 각명기술과 같은 주제는 역사시대를 전공하는 고고학자에게 더할 나위 없이 좋은 연구대상이라는 점에서 항상 관심을 두고 지켜보아야 한다.

In this paper, the inscription technique of the craftwork made in the Three Kingdoms and the Unified Silla period was analyzed to reveal its characteristics and changes. And the background was interpreted from the viewpoint of domestic situation and foreign exchange. The inscription technique found in Silla in the 5th century is a simple level of expressing the stroke of a character with lines. The influence of Goguryeo can be assumed in the background. In the middle of the 6th century, engravings appeared around Goguryeo and Baekje. Engraving appeared on the Korean Peninsula as the production technology of Buddha statues from Northern Dynasties in China. Afterwards, the technique of carving out the outline of strokes became popular in the 9th century. This technology was introduced during the exchange between Tang Dynasty and Unified Silla. In this way, the inscription technique of the Three Kingdoms Era and the Unified Silla Era expresses the original form of the text as realistically as possible. China s influence can always be assumed on the background of its change and development. Characters identified in archaeological data are mainly considered subject to study in history. However, inscription technique is an excellent research subject for archaeologists majoring in the era of history and should always be interested.
