19th Century Choseon Intellectuals’ Dream of Transformation and a New World of his Work – In case of Gil-ju Hong and Gyu-soo Park*43)

19세기 조선사회는 극심한 사회적 모순을 겪으며 사대부사회에도 큰 변화가 있었다. 일부 세력이 권력을 독점하게 됨으로서 건전한 언론은 차단되고 좋은 인재들은 재야에 묻혀 있었다. 이 논고에서는 이 시대를 “죽은 지식의 사회”로 이름하고, 그럼에도 새로운 사회를 꿈꾸는 재야의 양심적 지식인들을 주목하였다. 특히 홍길주와 박규수의 삶을 대표적인 유형으로 보고, 이들이 처했던 상황과 그 상황에서도 새로운 사회에 대한 희망을 버리지 않았던 그들의 생각을 부각시켜 보았다. 또한 새로운 사회에 대한 그들의 염원이 담겨있는 대표적인 저술인 『숙수념』과 『상고도회문의례』에 담긴 정신을 소개하였다. 이 저술 속에 담긴 이들의 염원이 그대로 묻힌 경우도 있고 때론 실현된 것도 있겠지만, 그 결과보다는 모순의 시대에도 불구하고 자기 시대에 대한 책임을 저버리지 않았던 지식인의 삶과 의지를 주목하고자 하였다.

Choseon Society in the 19th century experienced extreme social contradictions, and there was a great change in the intellectual society at that time. As some powers monopolized political power, variety opinion was blocked and great talent was buried in out of power. In this thesis, we named this time “a society of dead knowledge” and paid attention to the conscientious intellectuals of out of power who wished a new society. In particular, I looked at the lives of Gil-ju Hong(洪吉周) and Gyu-Soo Park(朴珪壽) as representative character, and highlighted their thoughts that they did not give up their hopes for a new society even in the circumstances they faced. In addition, I introduce the sprit contained in SukSooNeom(孰遂念) and Sanggodohoemun-aeirye(尙古圖會文義例), which are their representative books that contain their wishes for a new society. In some cases, the wishes of their contained in this writing were still buried, and some may have been realized. But rather than the result, despite the times of contradictions, I tried to pay attention to the their life and will as the intellectual who did not give up responsibility for his time.
