On the Research of the Existence of the Kazakhs of Altai and Other Diasporas

The purpose of the article is to introduce some little-known or little-researched data on modern diaspora Kazakhs into the scientific circulation. This article provides information about Altai Kazakhs in Russia, Bayan-Olgi Kazakhs in Mongolia and Kazakhs who migrated to Turkey. The paper also touches on the history of Kazakh and foreign studies of existing Kazakh diasporas. Since the study of the Kazakh diasporas was carried out by specialists from different countries and in different periods, the article provides information from Russian-speaking, Kazakh-speaking and English-speaking sources. The article provides data on both Kazakhstani and Russian researches, as well as information on a 2018 dissertation defended in USA. This article contains information about both theoretical research and field expeditions to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation in the 70s of the last century. Since the Kazakh language had three forms of writing graphics during the twentieth century, the issue of representing the form of source materials is important for researchers of Kazakh diasporas. The material of this article touches upon the history of the formation of groups of ethnic Kazakhs outside of Kazakhstan in different countries. The data on various projects and studies carried out by the Republic of Kazakhstan to study foreign compatriots are given in this text. In addition, this article contains various materials about the existence of modern Kazakhs abroad of RK. For greater illustrativeness and evidence, various types of materials were used – in the form of texts, photographs and transcripts of audio recordings. So, to illustrate the forms of life of the Kazakh diaspora in the Altai Republic of the Russian Federation, photographs of the Russian edition were given here. To demonstrate the forms of residence of Kazakhs in the Bayan-Olgi aimag of the Mongolian Republic, photographs of their lives by a local Kazakh ethnographer were used for illustration. As an illustration of the existence of Turkish Kazakhs, a photo report by the international editorial office of “Azattyk (Svoboda, Freedom)” was presented in this text. The conclusion of the article also contains information on current processes and expected trends in relations between Kazakhstan and Kazakh diasporas abroad.
