회상대화시 유아의 실행기능에 영향을 주는 어머니의 의사소통 역량

Effects of Maternal Communication Competence on Preschoolers’ Executive Function during Reminiscing

본 연구는 어머니의 의사소통 역량과 자녀의 실행기능 간의 관계를 알아보았다. 자연스러운 대화 상황에서 어머니 언어의 특징을 알아보기 위하여 어머니와 유아 자녀(91쌍)가 회상 대화를 하는 동안 다음과 같은 영역의 어머니 언어를 관찰하였다 - 마음상태 대화(인지, 정서, 욕구), 의미적 연결(자녀의 이전 발화와 의미상 연결되는 어머니의 발화), 정교성(새로운 정보를 더하거나 자녀의 대화 참여를 격려하는 어머니의 발화). 그 후, 유아는 나이에 맞는 실행기능 과제를 수행하도록 하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 어머니의 감정 상태 대화는 자녀의 실행기능과 유의미한 관련이 있었다. 이러한 관계는 어머니의 발화가 자녀의 이전 발화와 의미상 연결되는 상황에서 더욱강하게 나타났다. 또한, 문장형식의 어머니 언어의 정교성(elaborative statements)은 자녀의 언어능력 향상에 도움이 될 수 있으며, 이는 자녀의 실행기능에도 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있음을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 어머니의 의사소통 역량과 자녀의 인지능력 향상을 목적으로 하는 훈련 프로그램 개발에 의미 있는 기여를 할 수 있을 것이다.

This study aimed to explore how maternal communication competence relates to executive function (EF) in young children. In order to investigate the features of maternal talk during spontaneous conversational contexts, the following aspects of maternal talk were observed while mothers and their preschool children (91 dyads) were reminiscing: mental-state talk (cognition, emotion, and desire), semantic connection (maternal talk semantically connected to the child’s previous talk), and elaboration (verbal propositions adding new information and encouraging the child’s participation). Then, the children completed age-appropriate EF tasks. Results showed that maternal emotion talk was significantly related to a child’s EF. This relationship was stronger when the maternal talk was semantically connected to the child’s previous talk. In addition, it was suggested that children’s language ability could benefit from maternal elaborative statements, which may help boost child EF skills. These results contribute to the development of training courses designed to improve maternal communication competencies, which may ultimately help enhance cognitive skills in young children.
