The conventional achromatic photovoltaic modules are considering only the power generation performance, but recently, as the demand for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) increases for energy self-sufficiency in urban areas, photovoltaic modules of various colors, sizes, and shapes are being applied to buildings. Colorful photovoltaics are implemented by using the physical properties of each layer of the photovoltaic module configuration. Color is realized in Cu(In,Ga)Se 2 (CIGS) thin-film solar cells using multi-layer interference coating, the control of optical path length of the front layer, transparent diffraction grating, and light emission of quantum dots. The solar technology composed of eco-friendly materials is also required for resident acceptance. To avoid the toxic CdS buffer layer in CIGS thin-film solar cells, a Zn-based buffer layer using a chemical solution deposition method, sputtering deposition method, and the atomic layer deposition method is being actively studied.
