A Research on Creating National Trail Centered on Baekdudaegan Passes

Purpose The purpose of this research aimed to create national trail centered on Baekdudaegan passes through Korean peninsula. This research especially focused on developing tourism contents centered on the Baekdudaegan passes, which protect the environment, away from mountainous activities centered on ridges and mountaintops. Methods For geographical location analysis, total 30 of 62 Baekdudaegan passes were selected and they were categorized by 8 national park regions. Results All 30 passes are able to connect successfully east-west direction as a National Trail with the two south-north direction Baekdudaegan trails with related local tourism contents that are trying to be built by Korea Forest Service. This research is a kind of suggestion in order to create national trail as well as extending the horizon of tourism research with geographical study. Conclusion For operating and managing the national trail system centered on Baekdudaegan passes, a central government-level management organization such as Ministry of Environment exercise full control over the establishment and implementation of related policies. It is desirable that the maintenance of this national trail should be continued with the Forest Service
