firms which compete with product differentiation when the importing country’s government applies the bilateral or multilateral cumulation system. Design/Methodology/Approach For this purpose;we introduced a two-stages game which described the importing country’s strategic behavior;and by using the backward induction approach;we attempted to solve the Subgame Perfect Nash Equilibrium(SPNE). Findings Unlike the case of the exporting firms competing with homogeneous goods;in case a firm competes using product differentiation as its strategy;the importing country and high-cost firms’ welfare decreases;but the level of such loss is less than that of homogeneous ones. The deeper the level of product differentiation;the less the welfare loss in both bilatal and multilateral cumulation systems. Research Implications To utilize the global value chain;it is best to accept multilateral cumulation systems. However;importing country and inefficient exporting firms of the FTA member countries suffer welfare losses;so they might oppose this. Thus;the results of this study would give important implications to logically persuade them in this case.
