『여행기』에 나타나는 이븐 바투타(Ibn Baṭṭūṭah)의 쉬아파 인식

The article analyzes Ibn Baṭṭūṭah’s perspective on Shiʿah Muslims appeared in his Riḥlah. This article argues that his perspective on Shiʿah Muslims and their beliefs reflects the heightened antipathy among Sunni ʿulamāʾ toward Shi‘ah Muslims in the early 14th century. Like his contemporary Sunni ʿulamāʾ, Ibn Baṭṭūṭah regarded Shiʿah Muslims as ‘others’ in the Muslim community because of their distinct historical memories on the early period of the Muslim community. This article points out that as in the present time, different rituals and daily behaviors between Sunni and Shiʿah Muslims played a key role in demarcating sectarian boundaries in Ibn Baṭṭūṭah’s period.
