Differences in Respiratory Parameters and RPE for Treadmill Speed and Slope

Purpose : This study aims to verify the difference in respiratory parameters and rating of perceived exertion (RPE)according to the treadmill speed and slope in the same heart rate section. Methods : A total of 7 subjects were enrolledin this random assignment study. The respiratory parameters and RPE were evaluated after applying 60%&#8211;70% of heartrate reserve for 6&#8211;10 minutes under the conditions of speed and slope. The maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and minuteventilation (VE) were used to evaluate the respiratory parameters;and the 10-point scale of dyspnea and leg pain wasused to evaluate the RPE. Results : Although it was not significant in all variables (p < 0.05);the VO2max and RPE fordyspnea were high for the slope;and VE and RPE for leg pain were high for speed. Conclusion : It is necessary to studyvarious settings and parameters for treadmill speed and slope to provide an individualized evaluation program andpersonal assessment of cardiopulmonary disease patients.
