This study aims to examine the differences in perception between teachers and parents regarding the qualities of an ideal elementary English teacher. Since they have different expectations due to different perceptions of a good elementary English teacher, this study attempted to compare their perceptions. In this study, the researchers used the questionnaire asking teacher qualities in four categories―knowledge, function, attitude, and personality. There were 300 participants (150 teachers and 150 parents) from the Gyeonggi area. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences between parents and teachers perceptions of teacher qualities concerning knowledge, function, and attitude, while there was no significant difference in their perceptions of the personality qualities of teachers. Moreover, both groups considered that attitude is the most important characteristic of an elementary English teacher. Therefore, it is suggested that attitude and personality should be reflected in teacher recruitment and teacher training, and used as important criteria. The present researchers also suggest that elementary English teachers should have self-reflection time and monitor their classes regularly so that their relationship with students is formed well. Finally, it is suggested that various variables other than educational level and age should be examined in future research.
