촛불집회를 통해 나타난 새로운 시민문화와 생활세계의 복원

Reconstruction of the World of Life by New Civic Culture Found in Candle Protests

본 연구는 정치와 경제라는 체계에 의해 그 본래의 영역이 축소되고 있는 생활세계가 새로운 시민문화와 뉴미디어를 통해 어떻게 다시 재건되고 있는가에 대한 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 즉 새로운 시민문화의 형성과 생활세계의 복원에 기여하는 뉴미디어의 역할에 주목한 것이다. 이를 통해 매스미디어의 등장으로 그 본래의 성격을 잃고 체계에 영합해 생활세계의 식민화에 기여한 오늘날의 공론장이 사이버 공간과 모바일이라는 새로운 미디어를 통해 어떻게 변형되고 있는가를 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 심층 인터뷰 결과는 촛불집회로 대표되는 오늘날의 시민문화가 여러 가지 측면에서 이전과는 구별되는 특징을 가지고 있으며 특히 참여적 차원에서 계급해체적·시민주도적 참여, 문화적 축제화, 의식적 차원에서 저항주제의 차별화라는 특성을 지니고 있는 것을 보여준다.

This article reviews the reconstruction process of the world of life by the new civic culture emerged during the candle protests in year 2008. Based on Habermas’ concepts of ‘communicative rationality’ and the ‘public sphere’, this article argues that new media, especially mobile media played important roles in forming and spreading a new civic culture which has emerged during the candle protests. Results of the in-depth interviews revealed that the characteristics of the new civic culture include class-disruption, cultural festivalization, and offering a new protesting subject.
