The Occupation and Social Stratification Consciousness in Korea: Hierarchical Linear Model(HLM), 2005 ~ 2015

사람들이 서로 다른 직업군에 속해있다는 사실은 그들의 사회계층의식에 어떻게 영향을 끼치는가? 본 연구는 이러한 기제가 무엇인지 위계적 선형 모형(hierarchical linear model)을 통해 경험적으로 분석하였다. 분석 자료로는 2005년부터 2015년까지의 한국노동패널조사 및 임금구조기본통계조사의 데이터를 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 2005년에서 2015년 사이 한국인들의 사회계층의식은 직업군 고유 특성을 고려함으로써 매우 적절히 설명되고, 나아가 직업군 특성에 따라 사회계층의식에 영향을 미치는 요인들의 효과 또한 현저히 달라지는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 사회적 실재란 개인의 여러 특성이 단순히 합산된 것이 아니라 직업군과 같은 다양한 수준(level)에 의해 군집되는 특성을 지니고 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 연구 결과는 한국 사회의 사회계층의식 구조를 다층모형의 접근으로 분석한 최초의 시도라는 점에서 큰 의미가 있으며 향후 주관적 계층의식 연구에 다양한 함의를 제공하고 있다.

How does the fact that people belong to different occupations affects on their social stratification consciousness? This study examines the mechanisms by identifying the effect of occupations on social stratification consciousness using hierarchical linear model. In order to find out its effects, Korean Labor & Income Panel Study(2005-2015) and Basic Survey on Wage Structure(2005-2015) are used. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the change of the consciousness of social stratification of Korean between 2005 and 2015 was explained appropriately by considering the characteristics of occupation. Especially, the effect of various factors influencing the formation of consciousness of social stratification has been found to change greatly according to occupation. This indicates that social presence has characteristics that are affected by multiple levels (such as occupation), not a simple sum of attributes of individuals. These findings are significant in terms of the first attempt to analyze the social stratification consciousness structure of Korean society using multilevel analysis and provide implications of future research.
