공정성 인식이 주관적 계층이동성에 미치는 영향

The Impact of Citizens’ Perception of Social Justice on the Subjective Social Mobility: Using 2018 Seoul Survey

한국 사회의 불공정성 및 낮은 계층이동성 인식은 중요한 사회적 담론임에도 불구하고 학문적 연구가 많지 않았다. 본 연구는 시민들의 공정성 인식이 주관적 계층이동성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보았으며 객관적인 사회경제적 지위보다는 심리적 요인에 기인한 계층이동성 인식 형성에 주목하였다. 2018년 서울서베이 데이터의 응답자 중 20대에서 50대에 해당하는 29,081명으로 분석 대상을 한정하였으며 이 데이터를 활용하여 일반화 순서형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 전반적으로 우리 사회가 공정하다고 인식할수록 자신의 계층이동성에 대해서 긍정적으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났으며 특히 교육의 기회에 대한 공정성 인식은 계층이동성 인식에 미치는 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 응답자를 사회경제적 지위와 성별, 그리고 연령으로 구분하여 추가로 분석한 결과에서도 교육의 기회 공정성 인식이 주관적 계층이동성에 미치는 영향이 큼을 확인할 수 있었다. 이외에도 공공기관에 대한 신뢰가 높을수록, 주관적 계층의식과 가구의 근로소득이 높을수록 계층이동성을 긍정적으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다.

Despite the fact that citizens’ negative perception of social justice and social mobility has been at the center of social discourse over the last few years, studies on those issues have been paid less attention. This study stresses the importance of psychological aspects that influence citizens’ perceived social mobility and aims to examine how citizens’ perceived social justice affects their subjective social mobility. Using the 2018 Seoul Survey with 29,081 respondents, a generalized ordered logistic regression is performed. The regression results indicate that in general, respondents’ perception of social justice is positively associated with their subjective social mobility. Among the dimensions of social justice, a fair and equal educational opportunity has a stronger impact on citizens’ perceived upward mobility. Additional analyses are conducted by segmenting respondents by their age, gender, and socioeconomic status, and the results also suggest that a fair and equal educational opportunity significantly affects the subjective social mobility across all groups. In addition, it turns out that citizens’ trust in public institutions, household income, and their perceived socioeconomic status are positively associated with the subjective social mobility of Seoul city citizens.
