한국인의 민주주의에 대한 인식

A Study on Koreans Perceptions of the Representative Democracy

한국의 대의제 기관은 국민들에게 낮은 신뢰를 받으며 위기에 처해있다. 하지만 정당은 대의민주주의에서 국민의 의견과 이익을 취합하는 핵심적인 정치적 집단이고, 입법부는 국민의 대표자들이 모여 국민들의 의견을 국정에 반영하는 기구이기에 대의민주주의에 있어 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구는 민주주의에서 대의제 기관의 중요성을 확인하고자 경험적 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 한국인의 대의제 기관에 대한 인식은 부정적이었으며, 민주주의에 대한 인식에도 대의제적 요소는 우선시되지 않았다. 하지만 회귀분석 결과, 민주주의에 대한 인식에 있어 입법부에 대한 신뢰가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과들은 비록 국민에게 대의민주주의가 외면받고 있으나, 향후 대의제 기관이 민주주의 발전과 성숙에 기여할 가능성이 존재한다는 점을 시사한다.

Political parties and legislatures are important for representative democracy as they gather the opinions and interests of the people and reflect over the people s opinion in regard to state affairs through their representatives. Therefore, this study empirically analyzed to confirm the importance of representative institutions within democracy. As a result of the analysis, Koreans perception of the representative institution is negative, and the representative factors have not yet been prioritized in the perception of democracy. However, as a result of regression analysis, it is established that trust within the legislature has significant influence on the perception of democracy. These results suggest that although representative democracy is being ostracized by the people, there is a possibility that representative institutions will still contribute to the better development and maturity of democracy.
