한글서예의 연구현황과 개선방안

A Study on the Research Status and Improvement Plan of Hangeul Calligraphy

한글서예는 한글이 창제된 후 각종 서체가 생성되고 작품화가 이루어져 600여년 가까이 예술적으로 변천되어 온 것은 아니다. 실제 쓰임이 위주가 된 글씨체로서 한글의 사용빈도와 확산과 발전에 따라 서체의 생성과 발전, 예술성이 서서히 이루어졌다고 볼 수 있다. 때문에 한글에 대한 연구는 국어학계에서 학술적으로 많은 성과가 있었지만, 서예사적으로 한글의 예술성에 대한 연구는 크게 다뤄지지 못했다. 그러다 근래에 와서 한글서예에 대한 연구자가 늘어나고, 학문적 관심도 증대되면서 한글서예에 대한 기초적인 연구 성과가 축적되어가고 있다. 이에 본고는 최근 30년간 한글서예의 연구현황을 살펴보고, 연구의 경향을 분석한 뒤, 향후 한글서예 연구의 개선과제를 제안해보고자 한다. 특히 한글서예의 학술적 연구내용을 도출하는 기존의 연구와는 달리 한글서예 연구아카이브 구축을 시도한 것으로, 한글서예의 연구 성과를 한 자리에 집약하고 분류했다는 점에 의의가 있다. 한글서예 관련 연구 저서 10편과 논문 155편을 분석한 결과, 한글서예에 관한 연구는 짧은 기간임에도 불구하고 상당한 규모와 수준의 연구 성과를 내었다. 이는 한문서예 분야에 비해 학술적인 연구의 필요성과 그에 대한 인식이 낮았던 예전에 비해 한글서예가들이 점차 한글서예의 학문적 연구 가치와 필요성, 중요성에 대해 인식이 높아지고 있다는 점을 방증해준다. 비록 한글서예가 한문서예의 역사에 비해 2500여년 뒤늦게 출발했지만, 한문서예가 예술적·학문적으로 자리잡아가는 과정에서의 오랜 역사적 시간을 감안한다면 한글서예는 단기간에 상당히 연구가 진전되고 축적되었다고 해도 과언은 아니다. 다만 한글서예가 지난 30년간의 연구 성과를 토대로 향후 학문의 발전과 도약을 기약하기 위해서는 연구의 개선도 필요하겠다는 생각에서 네 가지 과제를 제안하였다.

Hangeul Calligraphy has not been artistically transformed for nearly 600 years since the creation of Hangeul, as various types of Calligraphy were created and produced as examples of Korean documents. It is a writing style that focuses on actual use, and the value of Calligraphy, development, and artistry were simultaneously created and developed according to the frequency and spread and development of Hangeul. Therefore, the study of Hangeul has achieved a lot of academic achievements in the field of Korean linguistics, but the study of the artistry of Hangeul in Calligraphy has not been dealt with much. Nevertheless, as the number of researchers on Hangeul Calligraphy has increased and academic interest has increased in recent years, the basic research results on Hangeul Calligraphy have been accumulating considerably. In response, the main school wants to examine the current status of research on Hangeul Calligraphy over the past 30 years, analyze the trends of research, and propose tasks to improve Hangeul Calligraphy research in the future. In particular, unlike previous studies that derive academic research content of Hangeul Calligraphy, it is meaningful that it attempted to build a Hangeul Calligraphy research archive, which summarizes and categorizes the research achievements of Hangeul Calligraphy in one place. According to the analysis of 10 research books on Hangeul Calligraphy and 155 papers, the research on Hangeul Calligraphy produced significant scale and level of research results despite the short period of time. This proves that Hangeul calligraphers are gradually increasingly aware of the value, necessity, and importance of academic research in Hangeul Calligraphy compared to the past, when the need for academic research and awareness of it was lower than in the field of Chinese Calligraphy. Although Hangeul Calligraphy started 2,500 years later than the history of Chinese Calligraphy, it is no exaggeration to say that Hangeul Calligraphy has progressed and accumulated considerably in a short period of time in the process of artistic and academic establishment. However, based on the research results of the past 30 years, four tasks were proposed in the idea that improvement of research would be necessary in order to take a leap forward in the future.
