중국 문자에 기초한 창세기적 해석에 관한 방법론적 비평

Methodological Criticism of an Interpretation of Genesis Based on Chinese Characters: Focused on Ship, Blessing, and God the Most High

한자는 오랜 기간 동안 만들어졌고, 끊임없이 변화 발전하여 왔으며, 그것이 만들어졌을 때의 의미와 발음을 정확히 아는 것은 매우 어렵다. 그러므로 현대 한자의 구조와 발음에 근거하여 과거 한자가 만들어졌을 때의 뜻을 유추하는 것에는 한계가 있다. 최근 한자의 창조 배경에 대해 일부 사람들은 성경의 바벨탑 사건을 기점으로 언어가 분화되고, 인류가 전 세계로 흩어질 때 동아시아 지역에 정착한 고대 중국인들이 창세기 구전을 한자 창조 과정에 반영하였다고 주장하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 그들이 근거로 제시하는 여러 한자들 중, ‘선’(船), ‘복’(福), 그리고 ‘상제’ (上帝)를 중심으로 한자의 창세기 기원론자들의 주장을 살펴보았다. 또한 상반되는 견해들도 비교하여 객관적으로 분석하였다. 중국 학계의 주장을 소개하는 과정에서 설문해자(說文解字)』와 갑골문(甲骨文), 금문(金文)등이 인용되었다. 단 하나의 문자와 그 기원에도 수많은 이론과 견해들이 존재함을 확인하면서 각각의 견해들이 가지고 있는 방법론적 한계를 지적하였다. 또한 한계를 극복하기 위한 방법들도 제시하였다.

Chinese characters originated a long time ago and have been constantly changing and developing. For this reason it is very difficult to accurately understand the meaning and pronunciation of the characters at the time they were created. Therefore, it is possible within limits to inferring the meaning when Chinese characters were created in the past based on the structure and pronunciation of modern Chinese characters. Regarding the background of the recent creation of Chinese characters, some people insist that after Tower of Babel incident, languages were differentiated and humankind was scattered around the world, and the ancient Chinese settled in East Asia. They refer to the Genesis story to explain the creation of Chinese characters. Regarding the origins of Chinese characters, some argue that the Genesis oral tradition had a role in the Chinese character’s formation process(造字過程). This study examines the claims of the Genesis originis of the Chinese characters, focusing on ‘Ship’( 船), ‘Blessing’(福), and ‘God the most high’(上帝) among the various Chinese characters that they propose as evidence. In addition, conflicting views were also compared and analyzed objectively. In the process of introducing the arguments of Chinese academia, 『Origin of Chinese Characters(說文解字)』, the Oracle bone script(甲骨文) and Bronze inscriptions (金文) were cited. This research refuses to adopt the rule of one dominant school but seeks to reveal the methodological limitations of each position. In addition, methods to overcome the limitations were also presented.
