On the Main Concepts and Terms Related to ‘Irregular’

이 논문은 국어의 변화와 불가분의 관계에 있는 ‘불규칙’과 불규칙에서 파생된 ‘불규칙 활용, 불규칙 용언, 불규칙적 교체’의 개념 및 용어를 살펴본 논문이다. 이들은 국어문법서에서 자주 언급될 만큼 널리 쓰이는 개념이고, 이들을 다룬 연구는 현재까지 상당수 축적되었다. 그러나 불규칙 활용, 불규칙 용언, 불규칙적 교체를 연구 대상으로 삼으면서도 해당 개념이 의미하는 바를 주도면밀하게 살펴본 논의는 매우 적다. 즉, 개념의 정확한 규정과 그에 따른 용어의 정확한 사용이 미진했던 것이다. 이에 본고는 불규칙 활용, 불규칙 용언, 불규칙적 교체를 다룬 선행연구들을 살펴보고, 이를 통해 국어 불규칙의 본질을 파악하는 방법 중 하나를 모색해 본 것이다. 불규칙을 기술하는 것은 불규칙을 규정하는 것과 밀접한 관련이 있기 때문이다. 불규칙 활용, 불규칙 용언, 불규칙적 교체가 선행연구에서 개념 및 용어로써 어떻게 사용되었는지를 검토하고 각각의 개념 설정에 관한 선행연구의 주요 논점을 정리해보았다. 국어는 형태소와 형태소의 결합이 매우 빈번한 언어이고, 이를 어떻게 파악하느냐에 따라 기술의 내용과 방향이 달라진다. 또 하나의 언어 현상을 두고 하나 이상의 용어를 사용하여 설명하는 것은 그만큼 다양한 관점에서 현상을 바라볼 수 있다는 반증이 된다. 그러나 이론적으로 완전히 정립되지 않은 개념과 문법용어를 사용함으로써 관련 대상을 기술하는 것은 문제가 된다고 할 수 있다. 본고는 국어에서 나타나는 불규칙을 소략하여 살펴본 것이지만 이것이 바탕이 되어 국어의 불규칙이라는 존재를 좀 더 명시적으로 규정할 수 있을 것이다.

This study examined the concept and term of ‘irregular conjugation, irregular predicate, irregular alternation’ derived from ‘irregular closely related to the change of the Korean. These concepts are so widely used that they are frequently mentioned in Korean grammar books, and research on them has been accumulated to date. However, there are very few discussions taken a accurate view at what the concept means while making irregular conjugation, irregular predicate, irregular alternation a subject of research. In other words, the exact regulation of the concept and the subsequent use of the term were insufficient. In response, this study looked at precedent studies dealing with irregular conjugation, irregular predicate, irregular alternation and sought one of the ways to find out the nature of Korean ‘irregular’. This is because describing ‘irregular’ is closely related to defining ‘irregular’. This study reviewed how irregular conjugation, irregular predicate, irregular alternation were used as concepts and terms in the precedent studies and summarized the main points of the precedent studies on each setting up the concept. Korean is a language where the combination of morphemes and morphemes is very frequent, and the content and direction of technology vary depending on how one grasps them. Furthermore, explaining one phenomenon of language using more than one term provides evidence that the phenomenon can be viewed from a variety of perspectives. However, it can be said that it is problematic to describe related subjects by using concepts and grammatical terms that are not completely established theoretically. This study is based on a summary of the ‘irregular’ that appears in Korean, but based on this, it can more explicitly define the existence of the ‘irregular’ in Korean.
