A Qualitative Study on the Breastfeeding Online Counseling Contents of the Korean Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine: Solving Breastfeeding Problems

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for systematic counseling on breastfeeding and to create a better environment for breastfeeding. Methods: This qualitative study was carried out on 164 counseling contents, registered on the website of the Korean Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine from Dec 2013 to Nov 2020. The topics were classified through the subject analysis process. Results: 33 questions were asked about solving breastfeeding problems, 19 (57.5%) of which were mother s symptoms and problems, and 14 (42.5%) were baby s symptoms and problems. Among the questions about mother s symptoms and problems, 9 cases (47.4%) were asked about breast pathology, followed by 1 case (5.3%) hepatitis B. hepatitis A. lymphadenitis, urticaria, eye disease, fever. hypothyroidism, armpit pain, Sanhupung and postpartum menstrual recovery. Among the questions about baby s symptoms and problems, 5 cases (35.7%) were asked about baby behavior with Feeding, followed by 4 cases (28.6%) about rejection of breastmilk and baby food. Next, there were 2 cases 04.3%) related to baby stool, and 1 case (7.2%) related to tooth decay, milk allergies and gastroesophageal reflux (GER). Conclusions: Encouraging the mother, providing evidence-based information and giving appropriate advice are important in breastfeeding counseling. More qualitative study on Breastfeeding Counseling is needed.
