This study analyzed the pathways through which stress, perceived health, and health promotion behaviors affect quality of life in one-person households in the Gyeonggi Province using structural equation modeling (SEM) to provide foundational data to improve quality of life in these households. The results showed that perceived health, compliance with health promotion behaviors decreased with increasing stress. It was found that stress can improve quality of life by practicing health promotion behaviors. Further, compliance with health promotion behaviors and quality of life increased with increasing perceived health. Finally, quality of life increased with increasing compliance with health promotion behaviors. These results suggest that it is important to lower stress, help perceive themselves to be healthy, and facilitate health promotion behaviors among one-person households in order to improve their quality of life. This study confirmed the need to make clinical approaches based on stress, perceived health, and health promotion behaviors for one-person households.
