This study aims at comparing the attitude of the aged living in urban and rural areas on the basic pension system. For the purpose, the data of the two previous empirical studies were statistically re-analysed. From this comparison, the important facts suggesting for developing the basic pension system are as follows; First, the aged in rural area are opposed to abolition of supporting transportation fee system for the aged more than the aged in urban area. Second, the aged in rural area want a downward adjustment of the ageing condition for the basic pension system more than the aged in urban area. Third, the aged in rural area want to exclude the property conditions from the eligibility, want more generous benefits than the aged in urban area. Fourth, the aged in rural area agree on the tax-based financial system of the basic pension system more than the aged in urban area. In conclusion, the aged in rural area want more generous eligibility and benefits than the aged in urban area. And they are not satisfied with the abolition of supporting transportation fee system for the aged, and the property eligibility conditions. These facts seem to reflect the difficult economic conditions of the aged in rural area.
