Ideology and Reality of Neoliberalism - State and Market Revisited

The aim of this paper is to analyze the principles and the propositions of neoliberalism as an ideology or a paradigm. Until now the state is regarded as a residual concept in neoliberal theory. Here the state, however, is dealed as an essential concept. That is, the state and the market are dealed with seperately in political economy perspective. And the logic of free trade theory as the expansion of market fundamentalism is also analyzed. This paper divides into four categories. First, sectionⅡ deals with the history and realities of neoliberalism. Second, sectionⅢ analyzes the predatory state theory of neoliberalism. Third, sectionⅣ deals with the problems of the market fundamentalism. Fourth, sectionⅤ focuses the limits of the free trade theory.
