This study investigated the effects of social support such as protection from stress, promotion of organizational performance, and buffering negative impact of stress on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. These effects were analysed in the context of buffering role of social support in a sample of 133 social welfare officials working at 18 local governments of Gangwon-do. For empirical analysis, the research model included such variables like perceived job stress, social support, organizational performance variables was analysed. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, some statistically significant meaning in relationship of job stress, social support, and organizational performance was observed. First, result of hierarchical multiple regression showed that the main effect of job stress to organizational performance was negative. Second, result of hierarchical multiple regression showed that social support from supervisors and colleagues protect from job stress. That is, buffering effect of social support on the negative relationship of job stress and organizational performance was found more strongly. Finally, in view of the results so far achieved, social welfare officials whom perceived high social support had the similar level of organizational effectiveness, regardless of job stress.
