The purpose of this study is to identify factors affecting life satisfaction of home-based elders to work out a strategy to improve their life satisfaction. For this purpose, a survey was conducted and analyzed with 214 persons over the age of 60 years who were using a composite welfare center for the aged in Gyeonggi Province. As for the differences in life satisfaction among home-based elders by demographics, affected on life satisfaction age, family income, religions, diseases After analyzing the effects of socio-demographic variables and sociopsychological variables such as family functions, social support, and self-respect on home-based elders life satisfaction, the better economic situation, the higher family income, belief in a religion, the better family functions, the higher satisfaction with social support, and the higher self-respect were related to higher life satisfaction among respondents. However, the amount of social support was shown to have no effect on life satisfaction. It is therefore necessary to make out a scheme to enhance these socio-psychological variables as a practical strategy to improve life satisfaction of home-based elders using a composite welfare center for the aged. It is also desirable to place more importance on qualitative approaches of social support than on quantitative ones.
