Overseas Employment Behavior of Students from Department of Beauty

  • 60

This study attempted to investigate students’ interest and factors affecting overseas employment and desired supports from the government of school. To use the results as basic data for schools to develop courses and for students majoring in cosmetology to get a job in a foreign country and provide them to the government and schools concerning the support of overseas employment, a questionnaire survey was performed against 200 students from Department of Cosmetology, ‘D’ College (2-year college). A total of 193 copies were used for final analysis, and the results found the followings: First, when asked why they want to work abroad “To learn advanced skills instead of just high pay or overseas experiences” was high in terms of positive responses. In negative responses, on the contrary, ‘language barrier’, ‘income’ and ‘adaptation’ were found. Second, when asked which country they prefer, North America (e.g., the U.S., Canada, etc.) was especially high. In terms of the reasons for such preference, “advantageous in learning academic major-related skills” was most responded. Third, when asked about desired supports from the government of school for overseas employment, “economic aid” and “qualification system” were high. The above results show that even though many students are interested in overseas employment for the improvement of their major-elated skills, they find it hard to make a decision due to some issues such as language barrier, adaptation to a new lifestyle and economic burden. In addition, they expect some assistances concerning language for adaptation to new environments, economic issue and qualification system from the government.
