The Sources of Conventional and Unconventional Political Participation : The Case of South Korea

The purpose of this study is to investigate the modes of political participation and examine the sources of political participation in South Korea in the individual level. While previous studies have only focused on either conventional or unconventional political participation and are somewhat limited to industrial countries, this study deals with both types of political participation simultaneously and tests the findings derived from previous studies mainly based on industrial countries in the Korean contexts. For impo rtant sources of (un)conventional political participation, this study found that both political efficacy and partisanship are important factors in explaining not only conventi-onal, but also unconventional political participation in Korea.
