In many countries, there is a system in place for those people who can not afford to pay for legal counsel or for legal fees incurred in court, by assisting them with public funds. It refers to legal aid. There are various forms of legal aid in Japan, such as civil legal aid, free legal consultations. Civil legal aid is a system which makes payments for legal counsel fees and court fees in a civil trial, on your behalf. If such a legal aid decision comes through, then Japan Legal Support Center will pay the lawyerʼs fee and the trial fee on behalf of the applicant. But the legal aid in Japan is presently based on payment on his behalf, where he is obligated to repay the costs at a future time. It is not a grant.
