고등학교 『윤리와 사상』 교과서에 나타난 공자의 윤리사상 기술에 관한 분석

Analysis on the description of Confucius ethical thoughts in the high school textbook 『Ethics and Thoughts』

본 연구는 공자의 윤리사상을 고등학교 『윤리와 사상』 교과서에서 어떻게 기술하고 있는지 분석하고, 이를 토대로 발견되는 문제점과 그에 대한 개선방안을 제언하는데 목적이 있다. 공자의 윤리사상은 도덕과 교육 내용에서 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하며 교과서 내용에서도 제외된 적이 없다. 그런데 공자 윤리사상의 정수를 담고 있는 『논어』는 편찬자, 편찬시기, 판본 등의 문제로 공자의 본래 의도를 파악하는데 근본적 한계가 있다. 뿐만 아니라 현재에 이르기까지 다양한 국가의 다양한 학자가 다양한 학파적 성향에 따라서 공자의 말을 다양하게 해석하여 공자의 윤리사상을 요약해 내는 데는 큰 어려움이 존재한다. 이런 어려움에도 불구하고 학문적 성과의 축적으로 공자의 윤리사상은 대체로 인(仁), 예(禮), 효(孝), 제(悌), 충(忠), 서(恕), 정명(正名), 대동사회(大同社會) 등의 주요 개념들로 정리되어 교과서에 수록되어있다. 그런데 일견 무난해 보이는 교과서 기술에는 객관적이지 않거나 왜곡된 해석, 원문의 변용과 같은 문제점을 드러낸다. 이 글은 이런 문제점에 대해 중립적인 축자역의 필요성, 원어의 제시, 사상가의 사상을 해석한 인물의 명칭 제시, 교과서 집필진과 검정위원 확충이라는 제언을 통해 향후에 교육과정이 개정되고 교과서 개발이 이루어질 때 반영되기를 기대한다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how Confucius ethical thoughts are described in the high school textbook 『Ethics and Thought』, and to suggest ways to improve problems found in the textbook. Confucius ethical thoughts occupies a very important place in the contents of moral education, and it has never been excluded from textbook. However, there is a fundamental limitation in grasping the original intention of Confucius due to problems such as the publisher, publication date, and edition of the analects(論語) which contains the essence of Confucius ethical thoughts. In addition, There are various academic tendencies and opinions of various scholars in each country. Therefore, there is great difficulty in summarizing the ethical thoughts of Confucius. Nevertheless, Confucius ethical thoughts can be summarized as humanity(仁), rituality(禮), filial piety(孝), courtesy(悌), loyalty(忠), forgiveness(恕), jeongmyeong(正名), and Daedong society(大同社會). At first glance, the contents of the textbook seem okay. However, problems such as non-objective or distorted interpretation and alteration of the original text are revealed. This article suggests that a neutral translation is necessary, the original notation should be presented as it is, the name of the interpreter should be presented, and expansion of textbook writers and examination committees is necessary.
