설화와 기록, 공간의 상호 읽기를 통한 서사적 기억의 생성 연구

A Study on the creation of narrative memory based on the integrated reading of tales, records and spaces: focusing on regional folktales in Ganghwa

본고는 강화 지역의 지역 설화들을 대상으로,공간에 관한 서사와 기록으로 남겨진서술물,그리고 실재 공간과의 상호 조응에 주목하여 이를 통합적으로 분석할 것이다.이는 설화 혹은 구술 기록물과 결합한 서사적 기억에 관한 연구의 연장선상이다. 강화의 지역 설화들과 강화에 관한 지리지의 기록,그리고 강화 공간이 서사화되는과정을 연구대상으로 한다. 이를 위해 기록-서사,설화-서사,공간-서사라는 층위를 구획하고,하나의 공간에대한 기록과 설화,그리고 공간 자체가 만들어내는 통합적 의미작용에 주목하고자 한다.기록-서사는 공간에 대한 역사적 기록이며 설화-서사는 공간에 관해 구술전승된이야기이다.반면 공간-서사는 실재적 공간이 그 형상을 통해 구축해내는 서사이면서기록 및 설화-서사와 상호 조응하는 과정에서 공간서사의 통합체를 생성하기도 한다. 이와 같은 서사적 기억의 형성 과정에서 설화가 가지는 중요한 기능은 보다 실재처럼 인식되는 기록이나 공간과 상호작용하며 기억을 중재한다는 데에 있다.설화는 어쩌면 잠재된 기억일 뿐이고 보완적인 기제로만 여겨질 수도 있지만 현실에 대한 공동체의 바람 혹은 소망을 재현하는 기능을 수행하는 것이다.

A study of oral memory in literary research tends to cover the historical records to consider a more extended cultural perspective. To investigate the memory derived from oral narratives, this essay will analyze the historical geographic records to compare them with oral narratives, which have a contrasting identity. For analysis, the historical geographic records and the oral narratives of the same region Ganghwa were collected, and this analysis contains the real space described in these narratives. The first historical geographic records level in this study is referred to as records-narratives, the second as folktales-narratives, and the last as spatial-narratives. The records-narratives and folktales-narratives, both in discursive levels, create the first narrative memory but also the cognitive frame for the real space. Subsequently, this cognitive frame interprets the spatial-narrative, and this final process creates the overall memory about the same place. This essay constructs the structure required to create the memory. In this process, the oral literary narratives, the regional folktales, are at the most subconscious level, but the oral narratives perform the core function to mediate all levels. In other words, such tales can represent the hope of the oral community or excuse the difficulty of the present and, finally, demonstrate the possibility of changing the present.
