백제부흥전쟁과 부여풍장(夫餘豊璋)・왜국 多臣氏

The Revival of Baekje and Buyeo Pungjang Oho Uji(Clan) in the Mid 7th Century

  • 116

In this article, I reviewed the following. First, about the question of when Prince of Baekje, Buyeo Pungjang, visited Wa(Japan), I confirmed the conventional view that it was dispatched during the King Mu era. Its main purpose was to check the mutual access between Silla-Tang and Wa. But the success of the massive Silla attack following King Euija s ascension had a detrimental effect on the diplomatic purpose of the balloon. King Euija s anti-Silla campaign and its success were also contrary to Daijin (Oomi) Soga s willingness to maintain the status quo in a proper check of the pro-Tang-Silla line. Gyoki, a prince of Baekje who came to Japan after being deported by King Euija, could be treated favorably by Soga Clan because of the cold air formed between Soga Clan and King Euija (Baekje). Meanwhile, after the fall of Baekje in A.D. 660, Wa arranged for Pungjang to marry Oho Clan on his way back to Baekje. It was a complicated marriage that included the fact that Oho Clan had a homogeneous relationship with Kyushu s indigenous forces, such as Hino-kimi, Ohoitano-kimi, and Tsukusi-miyakeno-muraji, and that they had close ties to Baekje in the past. In doing so, the Wa royal authority wanted to draw support from the Kyushu indigenous families to develop the Battle of Baekje and to build preparations for the battle in Kyushu.
