North Korean Sensitive Politics: An Analysis of The Light of the People

본 연구의 목적은 북한의 예술영화 <민족의 태양>에 나타난 북한의 문화정치를 분석하는 것이다. 연구 결과, 언어의 코드에서는 북한의 최고 지도자와 관련된 지배적 감성은 ‘귀천’과 ‘차별화된 사랑’ 패러다임이라는 것을 발견하였다. 또한 숭고함을 유지하기 위해 ‘강력성’을 지지하고 최고지도자의 ‘영속성’을 강조하는 양상 역시 발견하였다. 북한은 ‘귀천’과 ‘강력함’의 문화정치를 전개하는 것이다. 다음 기억의 코드에서는 북한이 ‘구원’과 ‘애민’의 패러다임을 강조하는데 김정은 시대에는 ‘애민’이 보다 강조되는 것을 발견했다. 또한 최고 지도자가 과로로 병을 앓게 된 이유가 ‘북한 주민들을 위해 몸을 아끼지 않았기 때문’이라는 부채감을 발명하여 그 부채감을 현재의 지도자에게 갚도록 유도하는 것을 포착하였다. 이 같은 북한의 문화정치는 시장화 등 외부 정보가 유입되는 현재에는 이전 시대만큼 작동하지 않을 것으로 보인다. 그러나 ‘과거에 존재했던 경험이 현재에도 강력한 상징적 힘을 지니고’ 있다는 사실을 기억할 때, <민족의 태양>에 나타난 북한의 문화정치는 북한 주민에게 일정부분 호소할 가능성도 있다고 하겠다. 김정은에 대한 정치적 충성심을 새롭게 정비해야 하는 북한 당국의 이와 같은 입장은 문화적 생존전략이라 하겠다.

This paper is an analysis of the linguistic and recollective aspects in The Light of the People and North Korean Cultural Politics. The dominant emotion of the Supreme leader of North Korea, is the ‘social cohesion’ and ‘differentiated affection’ paradigm. In short, North Korean cultural politics emphasize ‘social cohesion and power’ politics in the cultural aspect. In terms of the recollective code, people are encouraged to pay any debts owed to past leaders to the present leader by creating a guilt complex about the deaths of the past leaders, and emphasizing ‘the salvation and affection paradigm’ of leaders. While the recent influx of outside information reduces the efficacy of this system, its lingering appeal is due to the symbolic leverage of historic experience. In conclusion, the current state of North politics shows the dilemma of their surviving strategy in reproducing political loyalty to Kim, Jungeun.
