遭遇와 衝突로 高句麗 後期를 이해하다

Understand the latter half of Goguryeo through encounters and conflicts: Kim Jin-han, A Study on the History of Foreign Relations in the Late Goguryeo, 2020

5~7세기 급변하는 동아시아의 국제 정세 속에서 고구려는 제세력과 교섭하고 혹은 무력 충돌을 빚으며 동아시아 국제 질서를 주도하는 한 축으로서 자리매김하였다. 그렇다면 5~7세기 고구려를 이해하는 데 가장 주목해 보아야 할 것은 외교와 전쟁 등 대외 관계라고 볼 수 있다. 외교와 전쟁은 당시 국제 질서 그리고 각국의 외교 역량이나 집권 세력의 이해 관계가 반영되어 이루어진다. 그렇기 때문에 당시 대외 관계를 이해하기 위해서는 국제 질서뿐만 아니라 각국의 내부 동향까지 정확하게 파악해야 한다. 최근에 이러한 점들을 고려하면서 김진한이 『고구려 후기 대외관계사 연구』를 출간하였다. 저자는 고구려의 국정(내정)과 동아시아의 국제 정세(외정)를 연동시키며 역학관계론적 시각에서 고구려 후기의 대외 관계를 체계적으로 연구ㆍ정리하였다. 본고에서는 저서의 구성과 내용을 소개하고 이에 대한 필자의 생각을 밝혀보고자 하였다. 저서는 고구려뿐만 아니라 고구려와 관계를 맺었던 제세력의 내정과 외정까지 고려함으로써 어느 일방에 치우쳐 고찰하지 않았다. 또한 특정 세력이 아닌 제세력을 연구대상으로 삼으며 당시 동아시아의 국제 관계를 체계ㆍ종합적으로 규명하였다는 점에서 고구려 대외관계 연구에 크게 기여하였다고 볼 수 있다.

In the rapidly changing international situation of East Asia in the period of from the 5th to the 7th centuries, Goguryeo became one of the axises of the international order in East Asia, with frequent diplomatic negotiations and armed conflict with various forces. Then, the most important thing that we should note to understand Goguryeo in the 5th and 7th centuries is foreign relations such as diplomacy and war. Diplomacy and war take place by reflecting the international order of the times and the diplomatic capacity of each country or the interests of the ruling powers. Therefore, in order to understand foreign relations at the time, it is necessary to accurately identify not only the international order at the time, but also the internal trends of each country. Recently, considering these factors, Kim Jin-han published 『A Study on the History of Foreign Relations in the Late Goguryeo』. The author systematically organized the foreign relations of the late Goguryeo period from the perspective of dynamic relations[Internal affair], inter-operating the state of Goguryeo with the international situation in East Asia[Diplomatic affairs]. This paper will introduce the composition and contents of the book and show the ideas of the writer. The book deals with internal and external affairs of not only Goguryeo but also the other powers that had relations with Goguryeo. It studied all powers not just specific powers to describe the international relations systematically and generally in eastern Asia at that time. So it greatly contributed to the study of foreign relations of Goguryeo.
