온난화가스인 이산화탄소 흡수에 관해 지구수준의 탄소순환을 개괄하고 육상생태계의 탄소순환에서 산림의 역할을 서술하였다. 산림의 탄소 순환 및 산림의 탄소 저장 능력을 평가하기 위한 순생태계생산량의 의미와 평가방법을 소개하였다. 특히 산림생태계 전체의 탄소수지를 정량적으로 평가하기 위해 토양권의 탄소 동태를 파악하는 것이 매우 중요함을 강조하였다. 또한 산림생태계의 탄소수지 평가를 위한 순생태계생산량 산출 방법을 몇가지 비교하고 그 의미를 고찰하였다.
An overviews of global carbon (C) cycle for CO₂ uptake as a greenhouse gas and a forest C sink in terrestrial ecosystems were described. The implication and assessment methods to regard with net ecosystem production (NEP) were introduced to estimate of C cycle and/or C sequestration in a forest. To understand regarding quantitative estimation of C budget in a forest ecosystem entirely, the importance of C cycle in soil was stressed particularly. To assessment of C budgent in a forest ecosystem, the several estimation methods of NEP were compared and discussed.
