2017년 현재 우리나라에는 22개의 국립공원이 있다. 국립공원은 대한민국 야생생물의 최후 피난처이며, 생물주권 확립을 위한 생물자원의 보고이다. 육상 및 해양에 위치한 국립공원은 총 22개소 3,972.589 km2로 전 국토의 3.96%이며, 해상면적을 포함하면 6,762.298 km2로 6.71%를 차지한다. 국립공원 내 생물 종의 정확한 현황파악은 체계적이고 과학적인 공원 생물자원 관리를 위하여 반드시 필요하다. 2016년까지 수행된 전국자연환경조사, 자원모니터링, 국립공원별 생물종 연구 사업, 학술지 자료 등을 통합하여 조사된 국립공원 종 다양성은 총 20,568종으로 국가생물종 45,295종의 45.4%를 차지하고 있다. 전체 분류군들 중 곤충이 8,932종(43.4%)으로 가장 많은 종 수가 확인되었고, 그 뒤를 이어 관속식물(18.6%), 균류(8.2%) 등이 뒤를 이루고 있다. 국가생물종 대비로는 양서류가 90%가 확인되었고, 그 뒤를 이어 관속식물(86.6%), 거미(81.4%), 조류(78%), 등이 뒤를 이루고 있다. 전체 국립공원 중 지정년수가 가장 오래되고(1986년), 해상형 국립공원을 제외하고 면적이 가장 큰 지리산 국립공원이 7,882종으로 가장 종수가 많은 것으로 나타났고, 해양생물들이 포함된 해상형국립공원(다도해, 한려, 태안, 변산)등도 각각 4,884종 5,956종 4,048종 4,000종으로, 많은 종 수가 조사되었다.

There are 22 National Park (NP) in Korea (2017). National Park is last shelter of wildlife and repository of natural life resources. Species diversity of National Park in Korea is counted annually and each park investigated once in a decade legally. National Park that located in the mountain and sea area are 6,972.589 km2. National park covers 6.71% of the Korean total surface area and 3.96% (3,972.589 km2) of its total land mass. Accurate identification of the species in the National parks need for systematic and scientific management of Nature Resources. We found that the National Park species diversity is 20,568 after analyzing the national natural environment research, nature resources monitoring, National park species diversity research and paper issued until 2016. It takes 45.4% of the Korean total species diversity, 45,295 (2015, Ministry of Environment of Korea). It includes Insecta, which is the biggest group (8,932, 43.4%), Vascular plants (3,833, 18.6%), Fungi (1,681, 8.2%), and etc. Compared to National species diversity, Amphibia revealed the most species composition (90%) and came Vascular plants (6.6%), Araneae (81.4%), Aves (78%) and etc. Jirisan Natinoal Park, the oldest and the largest land national park, has the largest species composition (7,882), and marine national park (Dadohaehaesang/4,884, Hallyeohaesang/5,956, Taeanhaean/4,048, Byeonsanbando/4,000) also has many species.
