Has the Tragedy of the Commons Hindered the Sustainable Development of China's Economy?

In 1968, the American scholar Garret Hardin in the journal "Science" published an article entitled "The Tragedy of the Commons". "The Tragedy of the Commons" was first put forward at that period. Commons as a resource or property has many owners, each of them has the right to use, but have no right to prevent others from using, resulting in overuse and depletion of resources. During the past twenty years, China has developed rapidly in economy. The GDP of China in 1990 was 356.937 billion dollars, while it reached 8.23 trillion U.S. dollars in 2012. Meanwhile China's economic development has brought great many problems. Such as environmental pollution, water pollution, fog and haze is getting worse recently. This research aims to examine whether the tragedy of the commons has hindered the sustainable development of China's economy or not. On the other hand, we try to analyze a solution to improve this situation.
