A study on the mutual growth strategy for win-win of the Korean supermarkets

Purpose - This study suggested an actual model that SSM and small and midium sized store could grow up together. Since 1998, large enterprise grew up rapidly in the area of super centers. Number of super centers rapidly increased by 437 super centers in 2010 and major Top three super centers occupied 78% of all. As a result, there was no demand for super centers. Finally, super centers started to take over SSM. In 2010, SSM's store was expanded to have 877 stores. The super centers expanded their business in super centers and SSM. People raised the issue of their profit. Especially after retail distribution law was revised in 2009. Mutual cooperation between large and small enterprise raised social issue. Research design, Results - This study presented a solution that SSM and middle and small supermarket could grow up together by Franchise system and cooperative society's law. Franchise system was a mutual growth model that both Franchiser and Franchisees could grow up together. Franchiser provided franchisees with large enterprise's system and utility while franchisees could provide Franchiser with local information. They built trust each other to be a mutual growth model. Also, voluntary franchise system's model presented mutual growth model. The model was not restricted by revision of the retail distribution law. Finally, a cooperative society's law was enacted in 2012. If middle and small store owners built a cooperative society in the same goods, they could do a cooperative buying and selling. A mutual growth model could be made. And, this study presented a SSM's distinction method and middle and small supermarket's competitiveness. Conclusions - As mentioned before, the authors thought that franchise system and a cooperative society could be a good model that large enterprise and middle and small store could rely upon each other and could grow up together.
