왜 영성(靈性)의 시대인가?

Why is the Spirituality era? New Sprit dimensions demanding on the 21th Christians

오늘날을 ‘영성의 시대’라고 부른다. 영성이란 영적 존재인 인간이 “영을 따라 사는 삶”이며, 인간의 가장 본연의 종교적 태도이다. 그리스도교 영성은 예수 그리스도를 통해 하느님 말씀의 육화의 신비를 삶 속에서 살아가는 영적 태도를 말한다. 그러나 오늘날 영성의 시대를 갈망하는 현대인에게는 다양한 형태의 도전이 존재한다. 소유와 탐욕의 약탈 자본주의, 능률과 성과 중심의 피로사회의 압박감, 시장이 된 종교와 종교의 세속화 현상이 그것이다. 이 세 가지 문명의 위기는 곧바로 영성의 위기이자 기회이다. 21세기 그리스도인에게 요청되는 영성은 이러한 문명의 위기에 대처하는 그리스도인의 고유한 영성의 전통을 회복하는 것이다. 이를 위해 진리의 성령께서 일깨워주고 지탱해주시는 신앙 감각(sensus fidei)을 재발견하고 회복하는 일이다. 이를 위해 존재하고 있음에 감사하고 관계 속에서 자아의 정체성을 찾는 영성, 가치관의 혼란 속에서 올바른 정신의 지향점을 식별하고 자아중심에서 벗어나 하느님께 자신을 내어주는 비움의 영성, 그리고 이웃 사랑의 실천을 통하여 하느님 사랑을 회복하고 고통 받는 이웃과의 연대를 통하여 그리스도의 복음을 실천하는 영성이 필요하다. 영성의 시대는 모든 그리스도인이 거룩함에 초대되고 있음을 깨닫는 일에서 시작된다. 성덕에로의 초대는 영성생활의 출발점이며, 속된 세상 속에서 하느님의 거룩함을 일상 안에서 발견하는 21세기 그리스도인의 과제이기도 하다.

Today is called by “The Spirituality era”. Spirituality means that human as a spiritual being is “following by the Spirit”, which is human’s inborn religious attitude. Christian spirituality means the spiritual attitude that is living in God’s Word, which leads life to the incarnated mystery in real life through Jesus Christ. But these days, modern men who are longing for the spiritual era face to various kinds of challenges. Those are (1) Democracy of possession, greed and plunder, (2) Tired-society pressure centered on efficiency and outcome, and (3) Religions as a market and secularization. These 3 crises of civilization are the chance as well as crisis of spirituality. The spirituality demanding on the 21th Christians is to recover the inherent tradition of spirituality coping with such a crisis of civilization. To do this, to rediscover and recover the Sensus Fidei, which is awakened and sustained by Spirit of Truth. For this, it is needed that the spirituality which thanks for Being, the spirituality which finds identity within relationship, the kenosis spirituality which discerns the right spiritual direction point among value chaos while getting out of ego-centric, the practicing spirituality that recovers God’s love through loving neighbors and practice Christ’s Gospel through solidarity with suffering neighbors. The Spirituality era begins with realization that all Christians were invited to holiness. This invitation to flourishing virtue is the starting point of spiritual life. Also this is the assignment to the 21st Christians who discover God’s holiness in everyday life within the secular world.
