한스 우르스 폰 발타살의 ‘세상을 바라보는 관점’에 대한 소고

Essay on the “Catholic Worldview”(Weltanschuung) of Hans Urs von Balthasar’s theology: Introspection through communication with Romano Guardini’s theory

15-16세기의 사상적, 문화적으로 많은 변화를 겪은 가톨릭 교회는 19세기에 들어 그 현실을 직시하고 그 대응책들을 마련했다. 교회적으로는 제1-2차 바티칸 공의회를 통해서 노력했고, 많은 신학자들 역시 변화하는 세상이 내어놓는 다양한 문제들을 고민하고 성찰했다. 그 중요한 관건들 중에 하나는 오늘날을 살아가는 사람들이 지닌 사상적, 문화적인 변화에 대해 가톨릭 교회가 지닐 수 있는 ‘관점’은 무엇인가에 대한 것이었다. 하느님 중심의 사고에서 인간 중심의 사고로 전환됐지만, 인간은 더 불안했고, 세상은 세속화되어 원래 지니고 있었던 많은 것들을 잊고 망각했다. 한스 우르스 폰 발타살은 ‘지금의 교회’와 ‘현시대가 지니는 문화’의 관계를 통해 이러한 세상을 바라보고 신학적 성찰을 이루어냈다. 그는 젊은 시절부터 독일의 관념론과 이상주의가 지닌 사상을 비판적으로 바라보며, 다양한 ‘문학작품들’과 ‘예술’을 통해 인간과 세상을 새롭게 바라보고자 했다. 이러한 폰 발타살의 생각들은 로마노 과르디니의 ‘세상을 바라보는 관점’(Weltanschauung)을 통해 더욱 견고하고 확고하게 발전해 간다. 세상을 전체적으로 바라보고 그 가치를 평가하는 관점을 지닌 과르디니의 사상은 폰 발타살에게 지대한 영향을 미쳤고, 이러한 과정은 폰 발타살 사상의 기반이 된다. 본고는 젊은 시절의 폰 발타살이 독일문학과 고전을 자주 접하며, ‘세상을 바라보는 관점’을 통해 신학적 해석 방법에 접근하게 된 계기를 살핀다.

The Catholic Church experienced many ideological and cultural changes in the 15–16th century. Going into the 19th century, she has faced the reality and then prepared the countermeasures. In terms of the Church, she has made efforts through the 1st and the 2nd Vatican Councils, and many theologians also were concerned and thought seriously about the various problems arose from the changing world. One of the important matters is the ‘view’ that the Catholic Church carries about the ideological and cultural changes what modern people have. Even though, it is changed from the God-oriented to human-oriented thinking, but human beings get more anxious and the world gets more secularized, therefore they forgot and lost sight what they have by nature. Hans Urs von Balthasar achieved his theological contemplation through seeing the relationship between ‘present Church’ and ‘culture of present age’. He looked at German’s idealism (Deutscher Idealismus) critically from his youth, and tried to look the world and human refreshingly through the various ‘literary works’ and ‘arts’. Such thoughts are more fortified and developed by Romano Guardini’s ‘view to look at the world’ (Weltaschauung). Guardini’s vision which looked the world wholly and then evaluated its value, influenced greatly on von Balthasar, and such a procedure is to be the based on von Balthasar’s view. This study looks the momentum to approach his method of theological methodology through the view to look at the world (Weltanschauung) and von Balthasar’s frequent encounters with German literatures and classics in his youth.
