해석학적 접근을 통한 성인 교리교육의 방향 모색

Direction seeking for Adult catechism through hermeneutics approach: Centering on “Shared Praxis” of Thomas H. Groome

본 논문은 성인 교리교육과 신앙생활에 나타나는 문제점 중 하나인 ‘신앙과 삶의 조화’ 문제에 집중한다. 이 문제는 신앙 내용과 그것을 살아가는 삶과의 괴리감에서 비롯된다. 그동안 이를 위한 교육적 노력이 많았지만, 교리 내용의 암기와 주입식 교육에 따른 한계점이 여전히 남아 있다. 특히 신앙 내용에 대한 온전한 이해와 학습자 자신의 능동적 성찰이 없다면, 이런 신앙 내용이 자신에게 주는 ‘의미’를 발견하기란 쉽지 않다. 따라서 학습자에게 신앙 내용이 가져다주는 의미, 곧 신앙생활을 적극적으로 하게 되는 동기부여와 구체적인 결단을 하게 하는 교리교육 방법론이 필요하다. 본 논문은 현대 교리교육 방법의 하나인 ‘해석학적 접근을 통한 교리교육의 형태’를 통해 앞서 언급한 문제의 해결 방향을 제시하려 한다. 특히 이런 방법에 깊이 연구하고 실질적으로 활용하고 있는 토마스 그룸의 “Shared Praxis” 방법을 통해 성인 교리교육의 방향을 제시하려 한다. 그의 방법은 해석학을 이용한 교리교육 방법으로, 학습자가 자기 삶을 반성하고 이에 해당하는 신앙 내용(메시지)을 만나게 한다. 그리고 그 신앙 내용으로부터 학습자는 신앙적 의미와 자기 삶과의 관계를 성찰하게 된다. 이로써 신앙인다운 구체적인 결단에 이르게 한다. 그가 사용하는 이런 “현재의 변증법적 해석학”의 방법은 오늘날 성인 교리교육에 있어서 새로운 방향을 제시한다.

This study focused on one of the problem of ‘balance between faith and life’ shown in adult catechism and religious life. This problem originated from the gap between the contents of religious belief and the life of living. Although there were many educational efforts for this, but sill remained limitation according to the memorization of the contents of catechism and learning by rote. Especially, if there are no whole understanding about the contents of religious belief and learner’s active self-examination, it is hard to find ‘the meaning’ of these religious contents. So, it is needed an educational catechism method for the learner to understand the meaning of religious contents, and to motivate for active religious life and firm decision. This study tries to suggest the solution of above mentioned problem through ‘form of catechism through Hermeneutics approach’, which is one of the method of modern catechism. Especially, this study tries to suggest the direction for adult catechism, through Thomas H. Groome’s “Shared Praxis” method which studied deeply and practiced practically about it. His method is a method of catechism which used Hermeneutics. It makes the learners to reflect on their own lives and lead to meet relevant messages. From these religious contents, the learners come to reflect on the relationship between the religious meaning of belief and their real lives. With this, it leads to make a concrete decision as a believer. His “Present Dialectical Hermeneutics” method proposes new direction in modern adult catechism.
