Fundamental-practical Theology and “Clinical” Attitude

오늘날 우리는 다원주의 사회 속에 살고 있다. 과학에 대한 철저한 신봉과 종교에 대한 무관심, 그리고 다원주의에 따른 상대주의와 인간의 자율성에 대한 과도한 주장은 기성 종교에 대한 규범적이고 권위적인 전통을 부정하는 후기-근대주의의 영향 아래서 한국 교회에 신앙의 위기를 불러일으키고 있다. 이러한 상황에 직면하여, 실천신학의 학문적 기여를 추구하는 이 논문은 신앙과 삶의 분리 현상과 ‘신학’과 ‘사목’ 사이의 외부주의적 문제를 주제로 삼고 다음과 같은 질문을 제기한다. “신학은 사목에 어떤 도움을 줄 수 있는가?” 이 질문에 답하기 위하여 저자는 20세기 다양한 신학의 발전을 추적하면서, 신학과 사목의 관계 문제가 어떻게 다루어졌는지 탐구하고, 그로부터 오늘을 위한 실천신학의 과제와 태도를 도출한다. 오늘날 요청되는 실천신학은 신앙 전달의 매개를 비판적으로 성찰하면서 기존의 신앙 진술을 검증하고 그 진술이 참된 삶의 진리로서 제시되고 있는지를 식별하며, 왜곡된 신앙을 교정하고, 전통을 보호하는 ‘치료적’ 신학함의 자세를 취해야 한다.

We live in a pluralistic world which is simultaneously sceptical of religion while placing uncritical faith in science. This post-modern condition, with its embrace of relativity and autonomy, aversion to a meta-narrative, and a consequent disdain for the prescriptive and authoritative traditions of established religions, is creating a crisis of faith for the Church in Korea. Faced with this situation, this paper examines the role of practical theology by focusing on the problem of the extrinsic relationship between theology and pastoral practice. The key concern is, “How can theology serve pastoral practice?” To answer this question, the author, having traced the development of theology in the 20th century and explored the relationship between theology and pastoral practice, proposes pastoral directions and goals for the church and theological required attitude. Contemporary practical theology as a “fundamental-practical theology” must adopt a “clinical attitude” toward theological discourses and those practices, verify and discern whether those discourses are both authentic to tradition and promote a fruitful life as a “truth of life”, and finally purify distortions.
