漱石の『坑夫』と『野分』から見た『こころ』の死

A Study on the Death of Kokoro Compared with Nowake and Kohu of Soseki

『野分』の高柳の孤独感も『坑夫』の冒頭の青年の不安も精神的病の現れと見なすことができ、これは作者漱石の當時の精神狀態を文章にしたものであると言える。それに対して『こころ』は、先生の述懐という形式で『坑夫』の青年のような混沌とした不安や『野分』の高柳のような｢一人坊つち｣の孤独感を文學として見事に描いていると言え、この不安や孤独が志向している死の感覚を余すことなく描いている。『こころ』におけるKや先生の死はさまざまな解釋が可能であるが、『坑夫』や『野分』の不安や孤独の観点から見た『こころ』の死は、孤独の不安に耐えられなくなって自殺に至るという作者の心境が作品に現れたものと見られ、Kも先生も孤独の不安に耐えられなくなって死に至ったと解釋することが可能である。このような死の誘惑を伴う孤独や不安は環境的にもひとりであることを強いられやすい現代社會において誰もが体験しうる時代的病であると言える。そういう意味で『坑夫』と『野分』、そしてその文學的完成であると言える『こころ』は現代社會で人間が陥らざるをえない精神的危機をいち早く描いた作品であると言える。

Soseki described the isolation from, and the desire of, death of Takayanagi in Nowake and the anxiety about death in Kohu. But these expressions about these anxiety, isolation, and desire are like the symptoms of a neurosis. The expression about the anxiety about death in Kohu does not make sense logically and the isolation in Nowake is also just repeated again and again. The reason why he became lonely and anxious is not written. So these novels seem to express the sick heart of Soseki. While Kokoro described the reason and process to become lonely and how to decide the suicide of the hero deeply, it may be said that Soseki completed to describe his isolation, anxiety and the desire concerning death in Kokoro. Generally speaking, Kokoro concerns the suicide of the hero who died because of his pangs of conscience to K. But according to this understanding, K was lonely and he could not bear his loneliness and the hero was also lonely and he could not bear his loneliness any more. So it may be said that the hero and K in Kokoro commit suicide because of the loneliness and this is the completion of literature which has continued from Nowake and Kohu.
