여성 작가의 ‘아버지’ 모티브와 모티프

A motive and motif of ‘fatherhood’ to women writers: A study on life & novels of Romanian Ana Blandiana’s & Herta Műller’s

루마니아의 사회주의 정부와 차우셰스쿠 독재체제 아래에서 저항적 작가로 주목해야 할 여성 작가인 아나 블란디아나와 헤르타 뮐러의 인생에서 ‘아버지’는 트라우마(trauma), 고립(孤立)과 천직(天職)의 모티브이다. 소설에서 두 작가에게 아버지는 모티프로서 창작의 영감을 제공하였고, 그들이 살아야 했던 사회주의 체제에서 자행되고 강요된 사회의 일그러진 모습, 즉 슬픈 역사를 대변한다. 두 여성 작가의 작품은 다른 듯 닮은 작품이기도 하다. 아나 블란디아나의 소설은 성인이 된 후 정치범으로 몰려 사망한 아버지의 모습과 죽음에 관한 기억을 찾아가는 여정을 그렸다. 작가는 아버지를 매개체를 통해서만 기억하고, 아버지는 누구도 본 적이 없고 서고를 지키는 관리자나 교회를 배로 삼아 루마니아 농노들의 상황을 대변한 신부의 모습으로 묘사된다. 독일계 소수민족 출신인 헤르타 뮐러는 소설 전반에 사물에 관한 섬세한 관찰과 선명한 색깔을 기술했지만, 내면의 외로움, 음울함이나 악몽 등은 조국을 떠나 낯선 땅에 이주해 정착한 조상(아버지)에게서 유래한 것이다. 그의 자전적 소설에서 아버지는 나치를 추종하고 온갖 악행을 저지르는데, 아버지의 모습을 과장하거나 미화하지 않고 있는 그대로 묘사해 호평을 받았다.

Under socialistic regime and Ceausescu dictatorship, Ana Blandiana and Herta Muller who were resistant writers motived father as trauma, solitude and vocation. ‘Father’ as motif inspired their novels and symbolizes the distorted and tragic history. Their works are similar in many ways. Ana Blandiana’s novel depicted her father’s life and death who was sentenced as a political prisoner She narrated her father, whom she remembered only through hearsay, as a priest who is a supervisor over hidden library and takes his church as a ship. Herta Muller, who was from minority had been known for her minute and vivid description, showed inner solitude and depression and nightmares which were derived from her exiled father in her works. In her biographical novel she narrated her father truthfully as a follower of Nazi without adjustment and this novel got a good review.
